PROGRAM DETAILS

Healthy Mama, Healthy Baby
+ Puentes de Salud

In close partnership with the immigrant-serving Puentes de Salud (Bridges to Health) clinic, prenatal patients can receive

18 months of direct payments, no strings attached.

What is Puentes de Salud?

Puentes de Salud is a medical and wellness clinic that provides outstanding care to Latinx patients who are unable to get health insurance.

How are the mothers selected?

Puentes prenatal patients are randomly selected at the end of their second trimester as funding allows.

How does the direct cash model work?

Once enrolled, women receive 18 months of cash transfers to a debit card, no strings attached, for a total distribution of $8,000.

Who manages the program?

Puentes handles all enrollment and support logistics. The Neighbors Trust provides the pooled community funds.

Why Support Pregnant Immigrants?

Having a new baby is joyful but also stressful, especially if you're not sure how you will pay for groceries or cover rent each month. And the heightened fear of ICE detention or deportation right now certainly adds to that stress. We know that all these kinds of stressors are real risk factors to the health of both moms and babies.

Direct cash reduces some of these stressors during critical moments for families, offering stability for the family and a healthier start in life for our newest neighbors.

"The program has helped me a lot because I can buy healthy food for myself and feed it directly to my baby since I'm breastfeeding her. Plus, I don't have to worry about money for food because I know the program will cover it. Thank you!"
